The CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM is a state-of-the-art, easy to use, single use bioreactor system which includes a wealth of new technologies and allows growth of the widest range of cell types. It is a fully automated system designed specifically for mammalian and insect cell culture but can also be used for pichia, E. coli, algae and bacteriophage.
Whilst other disposable systems require shakers, rockers, rollers or large environmental chambers, the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM employs novel airlift technology, available only from Cellexus Limited and already proven in the CellMaker Regular for pichia, E.coli, algae and bacteriophage culture. The methodology is simple, effective, scalable and inexpensive to use. Coupling of this unique airlift technology with non-invasive, impellor stirrers allow the cell culture to be very gently mixed to deliver very efficient and controllable aeration, with minimal sheering whilst eliminating cell settling.
The CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM comprises of the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM Controller and the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM Enclosure. Cells are grown with fast set-up times and no cleaning requirements. When the CellexusBag is placed in the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM it is very efficiently aerated, with controlled air flow providing oxygen for cell growth. The non-invasive mixing also cells are maintained in suspension. Pressure can be controlled to enhance oxygen availability to cells and decrease foaming. Temperature control also enables production of the optimal yields of soluble protein under the most favourable conditions. The CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM can be used for culture of almost any cell type, including mammalian and insect cells, with full control of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration with pH monitoring and control.
Control of dO2 is essential to achieve optimal cell concentrations and viabilities for mammalian and insect cells so the system incorporates integrated oxygen sensors which are used to measure dissolved oxygen concentration. Data is fed-back to the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM Controller, which regulates and adjusts flow of air, nitrogen and carbon dioxide to the cells. Too little oxygen and cells may not achieve concentrations required for seeding large-scale bioreactors whilst too much oxygen and the cells may undergo apoptosis.
The culture of pichia, E. coli, algae and baceriophage is very straightforward in the CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM and can be performed without need for automated dO2 or pH control. The CellMaker MAMMALIAN SYSTEM with the CellexusBag can achieve oxygen mass transfer rates similar to a stirred bioreactor and considerably greater than a shaker flask to provide optimal protein yields.
