CellMaker PLUS
The CellMaker PLUS is:
- A state-of-the-art, easy to use, single-use, disposable bioreactor cell culture control instrument.
- Fully automated and includes a wealth of new technologies for efficient growth of the widest range of cell types including E. coli, pichia, algae and bacteriophage as well as the more challenging mammalian and insect cells.
- Does not require mechanical methods to mix or oxygenate. Whilst other disposable systems require shakers, rockers, rollers or large environmental chambers, the CellMaker PLUS employs a novel airlift technology, available only from Cellexus, which is simple, scalable and inexpensive to use.
The CellMaker PLUS includes four components:
- SupplyHub incorporating the air pumping system, temperature regulation and data aquisition.
- Controller to enable important user defined parameters to be specified. The unit is modular and can be provided with / without DO and pH sensor options. This enables use with the broadest range of cell types, including mammalian and insect cells as well as E.coli, pichia and algae.
- Enclosure in which the CellexusBag is held and which incorporates a Peltier heater to enable cell culture temperature to be closely monitored and controlled. Both 8L and 50L Enclosures are available to provide flexibility in scale.
- Oxygenator which can dovetail with the SupplyHub to provide continuous supply of oxygen and which ia also available as a stand-alone unit.

It uses the unique CellexusBag in which cells are grown, with fast set-up times, no cross contamination and no cleaning requirements. When the CellexusBag is placed in the CellMaker PLUS Enclosure it is very efficiently aerated, with controlled air flow providing oxygen for cell growth and gentle, non-invasive effective mixing to maintain cells in suspension. Pressure can be controlled via the CellMaker PLUS Controller to enhance oxygen availability to cells and decrease foaming. Temperature control also enables production of the highest yields of soluble protein under optimal conditions.
Control of DO is essential to achieve optimal cell concentrations and viabilities for mammalian and insect cells so the CellMaker PLUS Controller is available with optional integrated pH and oxygen sensors which are used to measure pH levels and dissolved oxygen concentration. Data is fed-back to the CellMaker PLUS Controller, which controls pH and regulates and adjusts flow of air, oxygen and carbon dioxide to the cells. Too little oxygen and cells may not achieve concentrations required for seeding large-scale bioreactors whilst too much oxygen and the cells may undergo apoptosis.
